who is mel ciavucco?
I’ve been writing since I was a child. It’s how I found my escape from this crazy world. Back then, my greatest achievement was winning the renowned English Award at middle school for short story writing. I was one of the weird kids so beating the popular ones to the trophy was pretty sweet.
I’ve written lots of fiction short stories, plus two screenplays and two novels. I started my own blog about three years ago and then wrote guest blogs and opinion pieces which were published online – you can see samples of my work on my portfolio page. I wanted to be able to share my own experiences to help others, especially around confidence, self-esteem and body image issues.
In January 2018, I headed off to Thailand to take part in a writing residency on Koh Samui, at The Content Castle. I wrote a lot, edited a lot and built on my digital marketing and social media skills. Those six weeks felt like about two years. It was there that I decided to take the plunge and quit my job to live my dream as a freelance writer.
Why Write Kerfuffle?
The name Write Kerfuffle was inspired by my writing residency in Thailand. My housemates Jess Coleman and Meredith San Diego would discuss the ‘word of the day’ from an app on Jess’ phone. One day, you guessed it, the word was KERFUFFLE! It became a word we used for my whole six weeks in the house and summed up much of the experience rather well.
And here I am, a pen for hire! I set up Write Kerfuffle to offer writing and editing services with an extra injection of peace to treat any actual kerfuffle. Nobody likes a kerfuffle. I want my writing to be more than just words on a website. I write with integrity. I write in line with my ethics. I won’t support businesses who objectify women in order to sell. I won’t write anything which even remotely supports sexist, racist, homophobic or any other judgemental attitudes. I also won’t support the dieting industry or anything else that makes a profit off making people ashamed of themselves. I’m here to help people through my writing, that’s my main goal.
Content writing/copywriting isn’t just writing, it’s about forming a good relationship with you so that you can communicate with your clients. Words on a website should never just be empty words surrounding a bunch of keywords. It should engage and inspire. It should make the reader feel good. It’s an opportunity to inspire and influence.
